24 x 7 monitoring

The FPS server will be monitored by a Tullnet Internet host once every 10 minutes. If the server is uncontactable for longer than a user-specified time, then the independent host will send an SMS alert to a user-specified mobile telephone number.

The Tullnet monitoring host will receive load data from the customer FPS server and will send an SMS alert if any of the following defined situations occur:

The SMS network does not guarantee delivery of SMS messages to the end user.

Software Pre-Configuration

The end user must provide details of their network configuration at purchase time, including:

System configuration does not include any modification to the customer's existing PCs on the LAN. LAN PCs must be modified to use the new FPS server address as a default gateway, and web browsers must be configured to use the FPS proxy address.

Telephone circuit connection (for Dialup) is via a standard RJ11 (4 pin) plug. The computer needs to be placed within 2 metres of the telephone wall socket (and commonsense safety applies too, there shouldn't be any cabling going across floors where people will walk).

ADSL connection is via an ethernet ADSL modem which plugs into the telephone wall socket via a standard RJ11 (4 pin) plug and which plugs into the FPS server using a standard CAT5 ethernet cable. An ADSL modem is not included with the FPS and must be sourced from your Internet provider with your ADSL service. The FPS can use a USB connection to an ADSL modem, at extra cost, however the ethernet connection is superior.

Cable connection is via ethernet to a standard Cable modem. A Cable modem is not included with the FPS and must be sourced from your Internet provider with your Cable service.

Automatic Reconnect

The automatic reconnection uses a delay timer to avoid continually retrying a failing connection. This saves money on a dialup connection. If a successful connection is made, the timer resets and a subsequent reconnection will be quick.

Upgrade from Dialup to ADSL or Cable

Upgrade of an FPS server from Dialup to ADSL or Cable after installation will incur a callout fee unless the customer is able to install the additional ethernet card themselves. Configuration can then be done remotely by Tullnet Pty Ltd on a time-charged basis.

No static IP address required

The FPS server is intended for outbound connections to the Internet, and its software automatically compensates for changing IP addresses.

Some Internet providers block incoming connections to prevent customers from running servers and the FPS server is not affected by this, however it may cause some difficulty if the customer wishes to expand their network to include a mail and/or web server.

Please contact Tullnet Pty Ltd if you wish to do this, as we can provide customised solutions to assist.

12-month automatic software upgrade option

This option is included with the first 12 months of every FPS server bought from Tullnet Pty Ltd.

Tullnet monitors Internet security alerts and reacts to protect your FPS server in any situations in which the FPS server appears to be vulnerable.

The FPS server software is upgraded for non-critical security fixes and other improvements on a monthly basis (as updated packages are available).

Firewall

The FPS firewall software provides protection against net-based attacks by refusing connections originating from the Internet. The firewall software performs Network Address Translation (NAT) to enable outbound connections originating from inside your network, and data is allowed into your network only for these open connections.

The firewall software does not protect against browser-based attacks such as malicious webpages, ActiveX controls, or pop-ups. It is strongly suggested to keep all web browsers up-to-date with the latest vendor security patches.

The firewall software also does not protect against email viruses or any other virus once it has taken hold within the internal network. It is strongly recommended that each Windows PC run a commercial virus checker.

Finally, the firewall software does not protect against spyware or other malicious software once it is installed on a PC on the inside of the network. The firewall software is designed to allow all outbound connections and refuse all inbound ones, and spyware works by running on the user's own PC and then making outbound connections to report.

Web-based management and monitoring

The web-based management system is password-protected and is available to both the end-user and Tullnet Pty Ltd. Incorrect reconfiguration of the server using this interface can prevent it from working. Tullnet Pty Ltd will charge a call-out fee if a site visit is necessary in order to repair a damaged server.

Next Business Day replacement option

The Next Business Day replacement option is designed to provide a quick recovery for a business when an FPS server suffers a hardware failure.

In the case of "server down" a Tullnet technician will visit onsite with a replacement server. If the cause is determined to be a software failure then the only fee payable will be a call-out fee. If the cause is hardware failure then the technician will swap in a replacement server which will then become the property of the customer. Ownership of the failed server will revert to Tullnet Pty Ltd.

The server replacement option is intended to cover situations only where a warranty replacement would apply. It does not cover mistreatment of the hardware, accidents or failure due to electrical interruptions, lightning strike or other environmental causes. In these non-covered situations the Tullnet technician will advise the customer that a swap replacement is not available and offer to sell a replacement server to the customer at a discount. If the customer accepts the offer then the replacement server will be swapped for the failed server, the ownership of the replacement server will transfer to the customer and the ownership of the failed server will revert to Tullnet Pty Ltd.

The Next Business Day replacement option is limited to a maximum of 2 server swaps per 12-month period. Any hardware failure in excess of this limit will require the customer to purchase a replacement server in accordance with the previous paragraph.

Prices are quoted inclusive of GST. However Tullnet Pty Ltd is not registered for GST at this time and so tax invoices will be supplied with a $0 GST component until Tullnet Pty Ltd registers for GST.
